How to make a Texas Cowboy Stew?

Sautee your onions over medium heat in a dutch oven.

Add ground beef to the onions and brown.

Add sliced sausage to the mix.

Add the tomatoes, pinto beans, corn, potatoes, diced tomatoes with chilli, and veggies.

Stir and mix everything until it’s combined.

Add the spices to taste.

Add water to the dutch oven, bring it to a boil, and leave it to simmer for an hour.

How can I make my stew less soupy?

Some people like a liquid stew. It’s good with rice or other sides. It can be even be eaten as a thick soup! However, if that’s not your preference, simply add less water to the mix. Watch the consistency as the water starts to thicken. As soon as it’s thick enough, you can add more water or turn the heat off.

What can I serve Texas cowboy stew with?

If you like a saucy stew, you can add a side of mashed potatoes or rice to it. The side dish will soak up all the stew and carry the flavor. Plus, you’ll stay full for longer because of the added side. Some people prefer to contrast their stew with something fresh, like a vegetable salad. If that’s your case, try adding steamed veggies like broccoli or asparagus. You can also serve the stew with a simple vegetable salad.

What spices work well in a stew?

A stew is like a canvas. It has a base; you can add anything on top of it. The regular spices include cumin, chili powder, and salt and pepper. If you want to make yours spicier, you can add some chopped jalapeños or any other spicy pepper you have at home. Paprika complements the flavors in this dish beautifully. If you’re feeling funky, add a bit of cinnamon.
