Hasselback Maple Pecan Sweet Potatoes

Maple syrup and pecans are just like peanut butter and jelly, they go so well together. Add sweet potatoes to that mix and you’ve got your Three Musketeers. The taste of maple syrup and pecans complements the taste of sweet potatoes beautifully.

This hasselback sweet potatoes recipe requires some skill, but the results will be worth all the trouble. It is the perfect fall dish to serve at your Thanksgiving feast or Halloween party. There is nothing that scream fall quite like this hasselback sweet potato!

How to make Hasselback Maple Pecan Sweet Potatoes?

Preheat the oven to 425 F degrees (215 degrees Celsius).

Make vertical cuts into your sweet potatoes almost all the way down, but don’t cut through them.

Brush the sweet potatoes with vegetable oil.

Season the sweet potatoes with salt and pepper.

Put the sweet potatoes in a baking dish.

Bake for 30-40 minutes.

Take the dish out of the oven and turn the oven up to 450 F degrees (218 degrees Celsius)..

Mix melted butter, ground cinnamon, chopped pecans, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt in a bowl.

Pour the resulting mixture over the sweet potatoes.

Bake for another 8-10 minutes.

That will not only stabilize the potato, but also offer some guidance for the knife. This way you will feel the chopsticks at the bottom and won’t be able to cut any further into the potato.  

Where does the name Hasselback come from?  

The name actually comes from the restaurant where the dish was first served. The potato dish was first served in a restaurant in Stockholm called Hasselbacken.
