Apple Fritters

There is no better way to kick off the fall season than with these apple fritters! Maybe it’s fall when you’re reading this, or maybe you just love the smell of apples in your home. Whatever it is, this delicious bite-sized dessert will bring about that fall atmosphere, make your kitchen smell amazing, and give you something to put on the dinner table after main course.

Apple fritters are little donut holes with apples and cinnamon. The final products ends up being a bit more dense than a classic donut. The best part about the recipe (aside from the delicious smell) is that you don’t need that much time or any fancy ingredients. You can have these fritters out on the table in no time!

How to make Apple Fritters?

Combine flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

Peel your apples, dice them, and toss them with lemon juice in a bowl.

In another bowl, whisk eggs with sugar.

Stir the flour mixture into the egg bowl. Add in your milk.

Fold your apple slices into the resulting dough.

Preheat a pot with oil to 375 F degrees.

Fry 2-4 fritters at a time and take them out when they turn dark brown.

Let the fritters rest on a paper towel.

To make the glaze, combine confectioners sugar, lemon juice, and water. Stir.

Drizzle the resulting glaze over your apple fritters and serve!

What apples are best for apple fritters?

Go for a firm apple to make sure it doesn’t get mushy while it’s cooking. If you have a favorite, go with that! If not, get Granny Smiths. They will stay put while they’re frying, and retain their texture and flavor even after being met with hot oil.

Why are my apple fritters turning out flat?

You probably want your fritters to be as airy as regular donut holes. You won’t reach that level of airy because of the density of the apples, but the fritters shouldn’t be too dense. When you’re folding in your apples, make sure not to overmix the dough. Fold them in just enough to cover them and give the dough lots of space to breathe.

How to make sure my fritters turn out crispy?

Firstly, don’t overcrowd the pot. You probably want to make all the fritters as fast as possible. The fastest we recommend you go is between 2 and 4 fritters at a time. If the pot is too crowded, they might start sticking to each other. Once you take them out, place them on a cooling rack or paper towel. Don’t stack them on top of each other! That will flatten them out.
